Our burn care program

In our region, we're leaders in offering the latest in advanced care for burns. Working to get you back to peak function, our specialists care for your needs.

Burn treatments we offer

When needed, the specialists in our emergency care unit and trauma centers work to stabilize your vitals. Once this happens, we quickly start you on the next level of care and work to restore your function. At our center, our burn doctors employ a number of techniques to get you back to health, including:

  • Advanced topical dressings
  • Ankle-brachial index (ABI) testing
  • Biological dressings
  • Compression wraps
  • Debridement
  • Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT)
  • Offloading support (not bearing weight on burned extremities)
  • Skin grafts
  • Skin substitutes
  • Stem cell therapy for burns
  • Unna boots (specialized wound dressing)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)

Some treatments could be as simple as a medication change, but more complex situations may require debridement, skin substitutes or HBOT. Our center offers access to two hyperbaric chambers for therapy, which allows our burn care team to create individualized treatment tailored to your needs. You may need HBOT if you experience:

  • Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
  • Compromised skin grafts/failed flaps
  • Gas gangrene
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Soft-tissue radionecrosis from a radiation burn

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, our burn center offers many exam rooms, two hyperbaric chambers, as well as multiple dedicated rooms for hydrotherapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Rehabilitative services

Our rehabilitative specialists help you regain functionality after a burn injury. After critical care, you may need the help of our inpatient physical rehabilitation services, or you may need to return to one of our facilities for outpatient physical rehabilitation. Both types of services accelerate your recovery by helping you restore function, relearn the use of limbs and extremities, or help you use adaptive devices.
