NICU
The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.

Mission Health's network of hospitals includes the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). If your baby is born ill or preterm, our dedicated neonatal specialists provide attentive 24/7 care that meets their health needs.
Our NICU services
The neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners in our NICU lead your care team. They work alongside neonatal specialists, pediatric respiratory therapists and many infant-focused professionals.
Infant transport team
Our Level III NICU at Mission Hospital serves infants from our region, as well as from the neighboring states of Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Each year, approximately 200 infants are transferred to our hospital to receive care.
Our infant transport team can bring your baby from other hospitals to our NICU using the latest medical technology. Whether traveling by helicopter or ground, your baby is kept safe, warm and stabilized by our experienced transport team. Our NICU team stays in constant contact with the transport team to ensure they are more than ready to receive your baby and provide care.
Developmental follow-up program
Our developmental follow-up program sees babies who need special care after birth, are at risk for developmental delays or have ongoing medical needs. Our team of medical and developmental specialists will monitor your child during their early years to prevent, identify or treat problems related to development, growth, nutrition and overall health. Early detection of any delays is the best way to set your child up for success in the future.
