All emergency rooms are open

All Mission Health emergency rooms are open and caring for patients. Find your nearest Mission Health ER.


Surgeries and elective procedures

All non-emergent surgeries and elective procedures have been canceled for all facilities until further notice. Your physician’s office will contact you directly to reschedule in the future.


Visitor restrictions

Visitation is currently limited to one visitor per patient.

To ensure the safety and security of patients and caregivers, we are limiting of all facilities to active patients, only one family member of each patient, first responders and caregivers.

Dialysis needs

If you are a patient dependent on dialysis, the DaVita Asheville, DaVita Arden and DaVita Weaverville dialysis clinics are all operational. Additional DaVita dialysis clinics in the surrounding area are also operational. If you need assistance in finding a dialysis clinic you can call DaVita Emergency Services at (800) 400-8331.

Angel Medical Center

ER is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Full utilities are restored. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.


Asheville Specialty Hospital

The facility is open and has power. Running water is not available.


Blue Ridge Regional Hospital

ER is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Using generator power and back-up water supply. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.

The facility is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Using generator power and back-up water supply. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.


Highlands-Cashiers Hospital

ER is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Full utilities are restored. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.


Mission Hospital

ER is open and has power. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Using back-up water supply. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.


Mission Hospital McDowell

ER is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Full utilities are restored. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.


Sweeten Creek Mental Health and Wellness Center

The facility is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Using generator power and back-up water supply.


Transylvania Regional Hospital

ER is open. Visitation restricted to one per patient. Full utilities are restored. Non-emergency surgeries and procedures are canceled and will be rescheduled.

  • Shelters: AB Tech Conference Center at 16 Fernihurst Dr. in Asheville is open, please use the Victoria Road Entrance. If you have medical equipment requiring power, please go to AB Tech at 10 Genevieve Cir. in Asheville. Those with pets who are still seeking shelter should go to the WNC Agricultural Center, where they will be accommodated as possible.

Water Distribution Sites:

  • County: 1 gallon of water per person, with a maximum of 5 gallons per family Must bring your own containers. MRE’s are available as supplies last.

    • Asheville Middle School- 211 S. French Broad Ave, Asheville, NC 28801 Site will be open until dark for drive-thru pickup. 1 case of bottled water per family per day.

Cell phone service:

  • Temporary cellular satellite trailer to the Family Justice Center at 35 Woodfin Place with limited cellular reception within several city blocks of where it is parked.
  • Asheville Harrah's Cherokee Center located at 87 Haywood Street has cellular service.

Low-acuity care needs: available in the tents located outside of the Emergency Department at Mission Health. Alternatively, each fire station has a medic stationed 24/7.

City/County information

  • Search and Rescue: FEMA & NC National Guard are in town to assist search/rescue
  • Public Briefings: daily at 10am and 4pm, streamed live on the Buncombe County Facebook Page and broadcast on Blue Ridge Public Radio 88.1 FM and iHeart radio stations including 99.9, 104.3, 105.1 and 570 AM.
  • NON-Emergency line for community reports of things such as downed trees and debris: (828) 250-6650.

  • ART buses: Service is temporarily suspended. They have been redirected to support relief efforts.
  • Fire Departments: For those needing medical assistance or for those who cannot call 911, each fire station will have a firefighter available 24/7. AFD will begin canvassing neighborhoods for needs.
  • Police Department: APD is at full patrol staffing. Additionally, Federal and NC State agents are assisting with security and other local Law Enforcement Agency's needs.
  • Public works/sanitation: Trash/recycling service suspended until further notice. Public Works is clearing storm debris from roads to provide critical access for emergency vehicles.
  • City Offices and Parks: Closed until further notice to allow full support for recovery efforts
  • Curfew: in effect from 7:30pm to 7:30am until further notice
  • Monitor Road Conditions: Check Waze and DriveNC.gov for road closures and hazards.
  • Travel out of Buncombe County: Highway I-26 heading East to South Carolina is open. I-40 East out of Buncombe County to McDowell County is reopened.
  • Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies

Where and How to Volunteer

  1. VolunteerNC: VolunteerNC is looking for volunteers to help serve our state with disaster services. To sign up, please complete this form.
  2. Samaritan’s Purse: Volunteers with assist homeowners in the Boone area with tree work, debris cleanup, roof tarping, and mud outs. Maximum team size: 15. Sign-up and more information available here.
  3. BeLoved Asheville: Volunteers are needed to help distribute and deliver supplies. Truck owners and truck drivers are especially needed. Sign-up here.

  5. Baptists on Mission: Volunteers are needed to support feeding programs, shower and laundry, chain saw teams, tarping, mudding and home clean-up in Henderson, Buncombe, McDowell, Watauga, Mitchell and other counties. Sign-up here.
