Childbirth Education

The women's health education program includes classes and learning opportunities both live and virtual in the areas of childbirth, safe infant care, breastfeeding, orientation to delivery at Mission Hospital, and women's health topics for self-care and care of the family.

Our team uses virtual and live presentations to facilitate access for all families in the region even if at a distant location. The virtual component may be accessed anywhere in the world.

To sign up for childbirth education classes, including orientation or tours of Mission Hospital, please contact Betsy Silver at 828-213-8561 or

Preconception Health

If you are a woman of childbearing age, you should take a multivitamin with folic acid every day. That's the primary message of the NC Folic Acid Council, an outreach program of Mission Fullerton Genetics Center. And now, thanks to funding from the state legislature, health departments throughout the state offer these at no cost. A full-time coordinator manages the 27-county western region. We focus in the community primarily on college campuses. We reach healthcare providers through presentations to private practice offices and health departments.
