How robotic surgery works
Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, is a minimally invasive technique that allows doctors to make tiny incisions with special robotic technology. It is considered a minimally invasive technique due to the miniaturized surgical instruments we use, which fit through a series of smaller incisions, rather than one large incision.
The most widely used clinical robotic surgical system includes a camera arm and mechanical robotic arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the robotic arms while seated at a computer console in the operating room, where the computer console gives the surgeon a high-definition, magnified, 3D view of the surgical site. Much like any other tool, the surgeon is always in full control of its operation and movements.
