About Our General Surgeons Don’t be misled by the term “general.” General surgeons are anything but generalists…they are highly trained and practice lifelong learning to stay ahead of the curve with new techniques and technology. Surgeons on the Mission Hospital medical staff are board certified, and many have completed fellowships in areas such as surgical oncology and laparoscopic surgery. In 2010 general surgeons performed nearly 5,000 procedures at Mission Hospital. These physicians must maintain a current central core of information regarding anatomy, metabolism, pathology, wound healing, shock and intensive care - things that are common to all surgical specialties. They also collaborate with surgical specialists as needed, assuring that you receive the most comprehensive care possible.
