About Sports Medicine

Mission Sports Medicine (MSM) has had a strong presence in the western North Carolina community since 2011. As the region’s only comprehensive team of fellowship-trained sports medicine specialists, MSM physicians have received advanced training in a very specific part of the body or area of orthopedics, pediatrics, cardiology and neurology, and continue to accumulate years of intensive study within these specialties. With several distinct subspecialties, MSM’s unique team ensures unparalleled expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and surgery of injuries and conditions impacting our athletes.

As a dedicated and generous supporter of area athletics, MSM has developed a renowned sports medicine team. MSM is proud to be the team physicians for the Asheville Tourists minor league baseball team, the University of North Carolina Asheville Athletic Department, local high schools, middle schools and recreational athletic organizations.

In addition to providing physician coverage for university and professional athletics, MSM values community involvement and maintains the tradition of interacting with and supporting western North Carolina’s student athletes. During the 2011 - 2012 school year, MSM made the decision to invest in a program that provides area schools with full-time athletic trainers. This outreach endeavor allows coaches and students the benefit of having a certified athletic trainer (ATC) available at the school, at practices and on the sidelines during practices and games throughout the school year. By partnering with the schools to place these athletic trainers, MSM has become an integral part of the team and culture of each of the participating schools.

The athletic trainers in the schools work closely with the physicians at MSM. This convenience, paired with the established relationships and the collaborative effort among the student athlete, parents, physicians, therapists and coaches, serves to help your child return to athletic participation as soon and as safely as possible.
