The team at Asheville Cardiology Associates has achieved a groundbreaking advancement in heart care by successfully performing the first commercial TriClip procedure in North Carolina at Mission Hospital in May. There have only been three centers in the state who have performed this procedure while it was still in its trial stage. This new technology offers hope for patients suffering from tricuspid valve regurgitation and was recently approved by the FDA.

Tricuspid valve regurgitation is a common condition where the valve fails to close correctly, causing the blood to flow backward into the heart, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and swelling in the legs or abdomen.

This innovative procedure, led by Dr. Michael Chenier, marks a significant advancement in cardiac care for our region. “The FDA provided final approval for Triclip earlier this spring and our center was the first to attend the FDA required training in a session in Austin, Texas prior to implants,” says Dr. Chenier, Interventional Cardiologist at Asheville Cardiology Associates.

“Further solidifying the commitment to the community to help improve the care and improvement of human life, we believe this procedure will help expand quality of life for patients who receive this treatment,” said Dr. Chenier.
