Natural birth
Natural birth occurs when a woman experiences a vaginal delivery without the assistance of medical interventions, such as anesthesia or an epidural. Instead, women opt for relaxation and natural pain relief methods.

Our low-intervention birth program
Our experienced labor and delivery team provides attentive, personalized care during your unmedicated birth.
Low-intervention and no-intervention childbirth
There are many women who want an unmedicated birth (sometimes called a "natural birth"). When this is the case, our providers create a customized plan that includes limited medical involvement, but never limits your involvement in decision-making. We also offer many low-intervention services that can help relieve pain and keep you progressing safely through labor.
Our labor and delivery team is trained to follow your unmedicated birth plan in many ways, including:
- Encouraging you to bring aromatherapy, music and birthing aids
- Initiating immediate skin-to-skin contact
- Positioning support or labor and birth
- Providing and using birthing balls
- Using hydrotherapy with labor tubs and showers
- Utilizing wireless and water-submersible fetal monitors
- Welcoming your midwife throughout the birthing process
Although we will honor your childbirth wishes, your health and your baby's health are our top priority. So if small interventions are necessary to get you back on track with your plan, we will help you make those important decisions before and during labor. We also work to provide you with a sense of comfort in knowing medical services are available, in the event you or your baby need them.
Family-centered, collaborative birthing options
Like many soon-to-be parents, you may choose to have the support of a midwife or doula during labor and delivery. We welcome these outside members of your support team while you are in our hospital. Our unit also features family-centered delivery rooms with ample space for those you want nearby. Whoever you need by your side, we can work to make it happen.
