Neurological care

Neurological care is the practice of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and function of diseases relating to the nerves and nervous system. Neurologists and neurosurgeons treat disorders that affect the brain or spinal cord.

Neurological conditions we treat

With a collaborative approach to care, our neurologists and neurosurgeons work together to help you achieve a healthier life. We treat many conditions, including:

  • Back pain
  • Epilepsy and seizures
  • Movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson's disease)
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Neuropathy
  • Severe headache
  • Stroke
  • Tremors (e.g., essential tremor)

Our neurology program

In our program, we address your neurological and spinal needs by crafting a comprehensive treatment plan, which is rooted in a proper diagnosis.

Diagnosis and treatment

Before determining a diagnosis, we perform a range of tests, such as:

  • Blood tests
  • Computerized tomography (CT) scan
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Physical neurological exam
  • Positron emission tomography (PET) scan
  • Single-photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT)

Epilepsy and seizure care

We offer an epilepsy monitoring unit with six dedicated beds. Our epilepsy-trained providers perform EEGs, as well as MRI and CT, to determine if your brainwaves are functioning normally. Specialized devices, such as vagus nerve stimulators, are an additional treatment option.

While epilepsy can often be treated with anti-seizure medications, neurosurgery is sometimes needed. Before committing to a treatment plan, we will always discuss the potential options with you first.

Movement disorder care

Parkinson's disease and essential tremor are movement disorders that cause unintentional shaking. Neurosurgery is a treatment option for both these conditions. Essential tremor usually causes trembling in the hands and arms, but Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder that can result in more debilitating issues. Though neurosurgery cannot completely treat these conditions, it can ease the involuntary movements associated with them.

Neurosurgery

Whenever possible, we prioritize minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of cranial and spinal conditions. The benefits of these procedures include minimal scarring, quicker recoveries and shorter hospital stays.

Some of the minimally invasive neurosurgery treatments we provide include:

  • Deep brain stimulation (DBS)
  • MRI-guided focused ultrasound
  • MRI-guided stereotactic radiosurgery

Neurological rehabilitation

From the first diagnosis, our neuropathy specialists offer individualized care that complements your unique medical needs. Your rehabilitation program can include one or a combination of physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Stroke care

If you or a loved one has experienced a stroke, our interventional neuroradiology specialists perform several minimally invasive procedures to limit stroke-related damage to the brain and body. These treatments and preventative measures include carotid stenting, clot retrieving and endovascular coiling.
