For Adult Volunteers
We are delighted that you are interested in joining the Mission Hospital Volunteer Team. Mission Volunteers are vital to providing our patients and their families with an exceptional experience. Volunteers serve in a variety of roles positively impacting patient experience, supplementing the outstanding work done by staff, and supporting Mission team members.

Adult Volunteer Program Application
Successful Mission Volunteers will:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be available to serve a requested 70 hours of serves over four months (most volunteer roles need a commitment of a weekly, half-day shift)
- Complete the volunteer onboarding process
You will be contacted by a member of the Volunteer Engagement Team after we have received your application.
Volunteer applicants accepted into the Mission Hospital Program will:
- Complete the online application form
- Attend an interview with a member of the Volunteer Engagement Team
- Submit to a criminal background screening
- Comply with the current Mission Immunization Policy, which includes verification of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity; Varicella immunity; Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine; Tuberculosis Blood Test (Tspot) screening; and an annual Influenza vaccine. Mission will provide required immunizations to applicants at no charge.

Junior Volunteer Program at Mission Hospital
Thank you for your interest in the Junior Volunteer Program at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Applications for New Junior Volunteers for the Summer 2024 Program will be accepted from January 30 to March 15. We have 20 volunteer positions available for applicants in our 2024 program.
Junior Volunteer Applicant Requirements
- Applications are open to students 14 to 18 years old. Students must be at least 14 years old by June 25, 2024 to be considered for the 2024 Summer Program.
- Applicants must have two positive references from teachers from the current school year. Applicants will provide contact information and Volunteer Engagement requests references. References must be received by the end of the application deadline on March 15.
- Applicants selected for an in-person interview must be available to interview between March 18-March 29, 2024. Interviews will be scheduled Monday – Thursday between the hours of 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
Students selected for the 2024 Summer Junior Volunteer Program will:
- Attend a mandatory Volunteer/Parent Information Session. Both the volunteer and a parent/guardian must attend one information session. Sessions will be held on:
- Monday, May 13 or Monday, May 21 from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM
- Complete Vaccination Screening: Mission policy requires all team members, including volunteers, to be current on MMR, varicella, TDAP and flu vaccines, as well as having a TSPOT test to screen for tuberculosis. Volunteers must have documented at least 2 COVID vaccines. Accepted volunteers will be referred to Mission Work Well for screening. There will be no expense to the volunteer.
- Attend mandatory Junior Volunteer Orientation: Junior Volunteer Orientation will be held on Wednesday, June 26 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.
- Meet weekly attendance expectation: The Summer 2024 Program will run from July 8-August 1 (Monday through Thursday each week). Accepted volunteers must be available to volunteer on a set schedule, two days per week (either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule) 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for each of the four weeks of the program. There are no excused absences to achieve a completion certificate. PLEASE CHECK YOUR VACATION AND CAMP SCHEDULES BEFORE YOU APPLY.
- The 2024 four-week Junior Volunteer Program will allow students to rotate among different departments and experience the hospital setting as a volunteers. This year’s program will include the opportunity to earn first aid/CPR certification, participate in department tours and presentations, experience surgery via virtual reality, participate in a medical simulation lab, and hold conversations with healthcare professionals from different clinical and administrative departments.
- Our team will make every effort to accommodate schedule and placement requests, but please note that we cannot guarantee specific assignments.
- Students enrolled in educational programs who are interested in participating in a learning experience for course credit within Mission Health should submit a request form.
