Frequently asked questions
At Asheville Specialty Hospital, we want you to be informed about what to expect before, during and after your time with us.
What is a long-term acute care hospital?
A long-term acute care hospital offers specialized treatment for longer periods of time than an acute short-stay hospital. This allows for your unique needs to be met at the optimum level. While nursing homes offer long-term care, they typically do not offer intensive medical treatment.
Who provides care at Asheville Specialty Hospital?
At our facility, you receive 24-hour care from board-certified doctors, registered nurses and other skilled staff. Our critical care team also includes specialty wound care nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and registered dieticians.
Will my insurance cover my treatment?
The liaison team will assess your medical needs and verify insurance coverage. Asheville Specialty Hospital is certified by Medicare, and we accept most insurance plans. Our staff will inform you whether or not our hospital is in your network. If it is not, we can often work with insurance companies to obtain in-network coverage for you.
Where am I discharged after treatment?
Our care management team works with you, your family and your providers to determine the level of care you will need after you transition to outpatient care. Most of the time, you will be discharged to:
- Acute inpatient rehabilitation centers
- Assisted living residences
- Skilled nursing centers
- Their homes
