Laparoscopic Surgery

General surgeons often use minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy which may result in faster recovery and diminished pain. Physicians performed more than 4,000 of these procedures in 2010 at Mission Hospital; more than any other hospital in the region. Some abdominal laparoscopic procedures include:

  • Diagnostic surgery
  • Gallbladder removal
  • Hernia surgery
  • Appendectomy (removal of the appendix)
  • Nissen fundoplication (lap Nissen) for patients who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Colon Resection to remove benign polyps
  • Placement of a peritoneal catheter to filter and remove waste products and excess water
